The earthquake in Haiti is a disaster. We all know that Humanitarian Aid should follow a disaster. The Disasters Emergency Committee will launch an appeal for money. We'll hear talk of government agencies leaping into action, of Search and Rescue teams flying out. We do tend to hear about it all in breathless commentary from BBC journalists.
But if you've ever wondered what it is like on the inside of an emergency team take a read of the latest post on the DFID blogs. Colum Wilson, who managed the response team for the Tsunami in 2004 has written an illuminating piece describing how DFID will be reacting to the disaster on the other side of the Atlantic. It is well worth the read.
